“A Life Rich in Quiet Blessings” Kurt Roberts died on September 27th from injuries received in a motor vehicle crash on Quincy-Mayger Road in Clatskanie Oregon. He was 52. A native of Portland, Kurt was born May 12, 1956 to Harley and Irene Roberts, and graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1974. Two years later, he began a lifelong career at Intel, where he was one of the first employees of that company’s first Oregon production facility. On March 21, 1987, after a whirlwind romance, Kurt married LaVeta Howard. Blessed with three children, the family lived in Portland until 1999, when they moved to Corbett. Led by the Lord, their move toward a country life opened up a new world for Kurt and LaVeta. The couple soon discovered the joys of raising alpacas and named their farm “Little Blessings” which reflected God’s many blessings in their lives. And they kept the same name when they moved to Clatskanie in 2006 to build their “dream” alpaca farm on 10-plus acres of prime land. Here, Kurt also operated an alpaca transport business that took him all over the United States. He was a member of the Alpaca Owners and Breeders Association, as well as its local affiliate, the Columbia Alpaca Breeders Association. Kurt worked hard to create a healthy balance between his career at Intel and his family life. He had a great sense of humor and enjoyed watching his children laugh at his jokes. Kurt didn’t mind being teased when he dozed off during a social event. When Kurt was younger, he loved riding a Harley. In later years, he enjoyed the wind-in-the-face thrills of a small sports car, as well as the joys of the open road in his truck as he hauled alpacas back and forth across the country. At the time of his death, he was still working at Intel. His career there spanned 32 years – all on the Aloha Campus in support of Fab4, Fab5, Fab15, and SORT Operations. Kurt held a variety of engineering roles with Intel in Diffusion, Thin-Films, Industrial Engineering and Test areas. He made significant contributions to each process technology and brought vast experience to all areas of manufacturing. Kurt embodied Intel’s core values and could always be counted on among his colleagues for a helping hand, great humor, and an unflappable approach to his daily work and a quiet kindness. Already missed by everyone whose life he touched, Kurt was a warm, open-hearted man with a strong faith in God and a big black cowboy hat. Along with his wife of over 21 years, LaVeta, he leaves behind two daughters, Lea and Amanda; a son, Kordell; and two grandchildren, Kyra and Korbyn. He is also survived by five brothers and a sister: Harley Roberts, Jr. of Portland, Launa Roberts of Portland, Chris Roberts of Aloha, Mark Roberts of Pacific City, Blaine Roberts of Tualatin, Lance Roberts of Newberg – plus numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. A celebration of Kurt’s life will be held Sunday, October 19th, from 2:00 p.m to 5:00 p.m. at the Linnton Community Center, 10614 NW St. Helen's Road in Portland. Anyone who has a favorite “Kurt story” to share, or just wants to enjoy a lifetime of wonderful memories, is welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made at any US Bank branch to The Kurt Roberts Memorial Fund. Depending on the preference of the donor, donations will be used either to help Kurt’s children with college tuition and other expenses, or will be given in his name to the African mission charities that the family supports, visit www.littleblessingsalpacas.com to learn more about the charities.
